Funding suggestions from car charger installation company Mr Electric Birmingham
Sales of electric vehicles are soaring as technology and infrastructure continue to improve at a rapid pace.
Many people are switching on to the benefits of using electric vehicles, not only in terms of the environmental benefits, but also because of their reduced running costs.
We’ve talked about the business benefits of electric vehicle charge points at your workplace or destination in previous articles, but did you know there are various ways you can bring down the initial investment costs?
Such is the Government’s commitment to moving towards a zero emissions goal, that grants are available to help support the cost of installing electric vehicle charge points, which means it’s easier than ever to get a piece of the action.
And as Government-approved installers of EV chargers in the Midlands, the Car Charging Company can help secure those grants for you and bring down the installation costs.
Electric vehicle charger grants for businesses
The Workplace Charging Scheme is a voucher-based scheme designed to provide eligible applicants with help towards the upfront costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charge points. It can pay for up to 75% of the purchase and installation costs up to a maximum of £500 for each socket, up to a maximum of 20 sockets across all sites per applicant.
To qualify, the charge points must be provided by OLEV-approved manufacturers and installed by OLEV-approved installers.
It does not apply retrospectively to charge points already installed and the work must take place within 120 days.
So, if you’re thinking of getting a charge point, contact us now to find out how we can help reduce the cost. We will also help you source the most suitable chargers for your needs from the network of approved manufacturers we work with.
We recently helped a Smethwick-based business secure £2,000 (almost 25%) towards the cost of four new charge points at its offices. You can read all about that Midlands car charger installation here.

If you’re an individual wanting to reap the rewards of an electric vehicle, you can also get funding to help towards the cost of your charger and installation through the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme.
Again, this contribution is capped at 75% towards the cost up to a maximum of £500 per electric vehicle.
Leasing an electric vehicle charge point
If the initial capital investment is still too much, or you’d prefer to do it another way, there is also the option of leasing a charging solution.
We are tier one installers for EO Charging which has launched a new Charging-as-a-Service funding model.
This entitles you to installation, operation and maintenance of an intelligent charging system (including all required supply upgrades and civil works), from just £1.99 per charger, per day.
Contracts are available over a five or ten year period and you will have full ownership of the charging infrastructure at the end of that time.
